A SLOW CHANGE

FINE WEATHER ENDING

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Strong north-westerly winds

Weather fair to cloudy and mild,

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for moderate north-easterly to northerly winds to the north of Kawhia and Tauranga. Elsewhere winds will be moderate to strong north-westerlies, gale force being reached at times about Cook and Foveaux Straits. The weather for the most part will still be fair, but there will be rain at times in districts with a westerly aspect and in the far south. Temperatures will be warm.

The recent anticyclone is at last moving away eastward and since last night a slight depression has been crossing the Dominion. Consequently northerly to westerly winds have predominated and these have strengthened about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Fair to fine weather has prevailed for the most part, but since last night it has become cloudy ovfcr most of the South Island and also in Taranaki, and scattered showers or misty rain have occurred in western areas and in the far south. Falls generally have been only light, but Puysegur Point reports 107 points of rain.

It was fine and warm in Auckland yesterday with light and variable winds, but a north-easterly breeze was blowing this morning.

In Wellington the sky was cloudy early in the morning, but the remainder of the day was bright and warm with a northerly breeze. The latter freshened after midnight and misty rain has at times since fallen, two points being recorded up to 9 a.m. today. Yesterday's bright sunshine totalled 7.9 hours, and the maximum temperature was one of 71.5 degrees.

Christchurch had fine and sunny weather all day with a north-easterly breeze. The night was cloudy, but the weather this morning was fair with a breeze from the north-west.

Dunedin also had a bright and warm day with a light north-easterly wind. It clouded over during the night, however, and misty rain, amounting to 14 points, has since fallen.
