SHEARING IN OTAGO
OPERATIONS DELAYED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, This Day. Shearing in the Otago district would be expedited if more shearers were available. Broken weather in the North Island, where operations start earlier, has held up the annual drift of shearers to the South Island, and sheep owners are also blaming the attractive Christmas bonus distribution of the Unemployment Board for keeping shearers in the cities.
The labour situation on farms in. some parts of Otago is almost acute, workers being unobtainable for general farming operations as well as fop seasonal shed activities. The weather in Otago has been exceptionally good for shearing.
