SPEEDWAY RACING.

Opening: of Season.

Complete arrangements have now been made for the opening of the speedway season at Kilbirnie Stadium next Saturday night. The addition of Putt Mossman and his team of American speedway aces to the programme will enable the management to stage a meeting the like of which has never been seen previously in New Zealand. The Americans carry a complete outfit of racing machines, riders, and mechanics, and so large is their equipment that they have had to secure special garage space in the city, situated in Herbert Street.

Two of England's Test riders have also been specially engaged for the meeting, at which there will also be a good representation of local talent. The English Test riders to appear are Bill Clibbert and Stan Greatrex, who performed with success in the big events of the recent season in England.

Among the American riders is Byrd McKenney, who distinguished himself by defeating the English Test captain, Eric Langton, in a recent even in America. Putt Mossman is the leader of the American team, several members ol which are back-markers in competition in their own country. In addition, there are Ray Grant, Bo Lesman, Sam Arena, Pee Wee Cullum, and Manuel Trujillo. The women members of the team, Dessie Grant and Helen Mossman, who are credited with being very skilful and daring motorcyclists, will also take part in Saturday's meeting, their contribution to the programme being a special stunt in which they will be associated with Putt Mossman.

Reserved seats are available from C. E. Claridge, tobacconist, Manners Street. Special trams have been arranged for nejet Saturday evening, and the Stadium gates will be opened ,at 6.30.

The members of the American motor-cycle team are to take part in a procession through the city streets shortly alter midday tomorrow.
