THE LOCAL INTEREST
Typical of suggestions made at meetings of societies working in the community interest are two ideas brought forward at the Beautifying Society One suggestion was that Karori and Karon cemetery should be separated by giving, the suburb a new name or vice versa the cemetery. The idea was very favourably received, but it was decided that the proper organisation to take the matter up was the Karori Progressive Association, and it was decided to pass the suggestion on to body.
The discussion arose as an outcome of the consideration of a subcommittee's report on the Karori cemetery, its entrance and general improvement. The report will be published later.
In discussing improvements to the waterfront, a suggestion was made that trees should be planted on one of the hills near the entrance to form the word "welcome" picked out in trees of light and dark foliage. It was thought that although the idea was feasible, such a scheme would have to be done on such a large scale that the cost would be beyond the means of the society, unless some interested citizen or citizens took the matter up as a special piece of work. The work suggested by the Marine Drive sub-committee is embodied in a special report which will also be made public shortly.
