The Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple), who is a member of St. Giles' Presbyterian Church, Kilbirnie, was congratulated by the Wellington Presbytery last evening on his elevation to Cabinet rank.

Mr. R. C. Lamb, of Wellington, appeared before the Wellington Presbytery last evening for examination as to his fitness to enter the ministry. Reports were presented by presbytery examiners on various aspects of Mr. Lamb's scholastic work, and he was unanimously accepted as a suitable licentiate of the Presbyterian ministry.

The Rev. D. M. Herciis, of' Calvin Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, was last evening elected moderator of, the Wellington Presbytery for the coming year. Mr. Hercus is almost the youngest member of the Presbytery.

Mr. H. M. Caselberg, Hawera'branch manager of the Farmers' Co-operative Association, has been appointed supervising valuer in the North Island for the Mortgage Corporation (states a Press Association message from Hawera). He assumes his neyv duties at the end of February.

The council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last evening expressed the deep regret of members at the death of Captain P. A. Petersen. a member of the chamber since 1923 and a member of the executive for some years. :

WOOLWORTHS, LTD., DIVIDEND.

The secretary of the Stock Exchange Association of New Zealand has been advised by Woolworths, Ltd., Sydney, December 5, that an interim dividend of 2 per cent, on the paid-up ordinary share capital of this company, based on holdings as at December 31, 1935, has been declared, and will be available for payment on January 15, 1936. The ordinary transfer books of the company will be closed from December 24 to 31, 1935, inclusive.
