FATAL ACCIDENT

FRUITERER CHARGED

DANGEROUS DRIVING ALLEGED

A collision between a motor-van and a tram-car in Kent Terrace four months ago, when one man received injuries from which he died later in the Wellington Public Hospital, and another was seriously injured, was recalled in the Magistrate's Court today, when one of the men —Lala Parchhotam or Parsotam, an Indian fruiterer —faced charges of dangerous driving and negligently driving a motor-car so as to cause death. Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., heard the case.

Mr. J. D. Willis appeared for Parchhotam, and Senior-Sergeant D. J. O'Neill conducted the case on behalf of the police.

The man, who died from 'his injuries after the collision, was Eric Malcolm Biel.

Evidence was given by a surveyor employed by the Lands and Survey Department concerning a plan that he had made of the locality where the accident occurred, and a traffic inspector of the Wellington City Corporation, who stated that he arrived on the scene soon after the collision, and later took measurements and noted the positions of the motor-van and tram-car.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed in the sum of £50 and one surety of £50.
