ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

CANDIDATES FOR OTAKI

KORERO IN GEORGE'S TEAM

(By "Rangatira.")

Trentham stables will have from a dozen to fifteen representatives in the acceptances for the Otaki Maori Racing Club's Summer Meeting on Saturday, and the majority of the likely candidates were galloped this morning, though some were given only pacing and will not do their final work till Thursday. The weather was fine and calm, and the plough track, which is now being exclusively used, was fast.

Sunee (L. Nesbitt) was over a length too good for Red Sun (G. Ridgway) in a seven-furlong trial occupying* lmin 30sec. Both horses worked well. Sunee will be ridden in the main handicap by G. Tattersall, who can claim the full allowance. No rider has yet been engaged for Red Sun, who is to run on the flat in the opei. seven. J. W. Lowe will have the pair racing at Awapuni at Christmas.

Gold Vein (J. F. Nicolson) ran five furlongs in lmin 4sec, the last half-mile in 51 l-ssec. Brabant (Nicolson) was doing his best only at the end of his half-mile in 51 l-ssec. Acceptable and Nightlass were confined to pacing. ■ Darecourt (R. Webster) finished half a length ahead of Colenso (A. Leach) after running half a mile in 50sec. Darecourt will not be racing at Otaki, and Colenso is not certain to make the trip. Should Colenso go N.'Vaughan will have the mount. •

Might (Vaughan) had the Auckland Cup favourite Cuddle (Wilson) as a companion over a round (about 9J furlongs), and though he galloped well the mare slipped away from him near the finish to pass the post two lengths ahead. The last mile took lmin 43 3-ssec, and the last half-mile 51 2-ssec. Might promises to be a useful horse again before the holidays are \ over. He will be ridden at Otaki by Wilson, who will also be on Going Gay.(probably hack six), Boomerang, After Money (if started), and Nightlass.

Princess Doreeh (Wilson) did -her six furlongs with After Money (Vaughan), and she won the trial narrowly in lmin 15 4-ssec, the last halfmile in 50 2-ssec. It was an excellent gallop by both horses, one of the best six furlongs that has been done at Trentham this season. Princess Doreen will oppose Might in the main handicap at Otaki and she will have the services of G. Ridgway, who will also be on either'Myriam or Valroy in the maiden event.

Kia Tina (B. V.\ CarruthersT beat Otauru King (P. Burgess) by a couple of lengths over seven furlongs in lmin 33sec, the last half-mile in 55sec. Otauru King ran indifferently. He will be ridden in Saturday's hurdles by E. Burgess.

Valroy (J. McCauley) ■ went out to do five furlongs with Bay Area (J. Barber) and Sansfoy (R. Hawes), but he broke away alone and ran half a mile in 51sec. The other pair followed, Bay Area jumping off several lengths clear and finishing about two lengths in front in 51 l-ssec. Sansfoy was running on very strongly. D. W. Bush will ride him at Otaki.

Shy (McCauley) was going well half a length in front of Going Gay (Wilson) at the end of half a mile in 50 4-ssec. Ayresleigh (Ridgway) came down from the three furlong's in 37sec. Boomerang was given pacing t only. As a result of the return of H._; B. Lorigan, W. J. Wood has bad to! find new quarters, and he will shift this" week to the "Rapine Lodge" stables formerly occupied'by A. E. Browne. The establishment has - eight boxes, ample for the present team of four.

Prostration is now in T. R. George's stable. Although he had .a long trip of nine days from Melbourne he did well on the. passage. Another addition to George's team is Korero, whom George formerly had and who also returned last week from Melbourne. Korero is to be raced later on over fences and he will probably carry the colours of one of the stable's present patrons. -
