BURLESQUE OF HITLER

LONDON PLAY OFFENDS

EXCISION ORDERED

(Received December 6, 2.1*5 pjn.)

LONDON, December 5.

Recalling representations by the Gei> man Consul at Sydney successfully appealing to the Governor not to attend a theatre at which Herr Hitler was burlesqued, the Lord Chamberlain, has instructed the Garrick Theatre, London, to omit all reference to Herr Hitler from the play "Vicky."

The German Embassy last week complained that it was discourteous to the Fuhrer to have a page boy named Hezekiah Hitler saying: "It's a nuisance there being two of us, but he won't change his name. I'm danged 'it I change mine."

The Lord Chamberlain's order was received a few hours before tonight's performance, and as there was no time to rewrite and rehearse the scene the name of Herr Hitler was temporarily replaced by George Berr nard Gandhi as the manager hopes I Gandhi is not in direct telephonic communication with London.
