PEACE PLANS

ITALO-ABYSSINIAN WAR

PROPOSALS FROM PARIS

UPHEAVAL IN ITALY

LONDON, December 3.

There is renewed talk of peace plans in the face of the menace of oil sanctions against Italy, filling the gap in war news, which is confined to a small repulse of Abyssinian raiders and reports a big imminent Abyssinian advance towards Makale.

Whitehall attaches importance to the meeting of Sir Samuel Hoare and M. Laval at Paris on Saturday. The diplomatic correspondent of the "Daily Mail" understands that Sir Samuel Hoare is the bearer of proposals likely to reconcile British and French views, and enabling a better prospect of settlement. M. Laval is also in a position to make definite suggestions to Sir Samuel Hoare as a result of recent contacts with Signor Mussolini.

The Paris correspondent of "The Times" mentions the belief that Britain is inclined to favour a plan whereby Italy shall receive some non-Amharic (Abyssinian) lands, possibly to the north-east, while Abyssinia receives access to the sea. Both parties would then come into absolute possession of such newly-acquired territory.

The diplomatic correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" implies that while Anglo-French experts in Paris ,are progressing on a peace plan it' is not yet in a form submittable to Signor Mussolini. Meantime there is abundant evidence from Italy of an upheaval all over the country as a result of the war plus the action of Powers, either taken or contemplated.
