A PETTY CRISIS
TURKEY & SAN MUINO
WAR TREATY OMISSION
(Received November 30,. 3- p.m.) CONSTANTINOPLE, Nov. 29. The most minute international crisis yet recorded has arisen:between Turkey and San Marino, the latter refusing to admit a Turk who is anxious to study local agriculture because a state of war still exists between these countries. The situation arose because the, signatories to the Sevres and Lausanne Treaties omitted San Marino, completely forgetting that she was Italy's ally against Turkey during the Great War. San Marino is a republic in northern Italy, 14 miles south-west of. Rimini, It is the smallest republic in the world, being 32 square miles in area. According to tradition, it dates from the fourth century and the available forces total 1200 men, all citizens able to bear arms being obliged to do so from 16 to 60 years of age. In the World War the Germans accused San Marino of espionage through the wireless station on Mount Titano, which stands 2400 feet above sea level. When Italy entered the war San Marino voted £1500 to Italian sufferers and one of the regents expressed hopes of her victory. Since 1862 the Republic has had treaty relations with Italy.
