BIENNIAL CONFERENCE
The biennial conference of*the New Zealand Post and Telegraph Employees' Association opened at Wellington on Tuesday morning, and will be in session for, a .number of days. In the absence of the PostmasterGeneral, Hon. Adam Hamilton, and the Director-General of the Post • and Telegraph; Department, • Mr. G. McNamara, the Deputy Director-General, Mr. F. J. Shanks, formally opened the conference. ■
One of the principal matters so far discussed was the question of salaries. In this connection it was decided that the association should, at the earliest
opportunity, approach the Government with a request for (1) a full restoration of the 1931-32 salary cuts to.be followed by a comprehensive classification of the service; (2) a separate .salary schedule for the Post and Telegrlph service, and the setting up 6l an independent tribunal for the assessment of salaries.
