INSTITUTE OF HORTICULTURE
The monthly meeting of the executive Council of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture was held recently when there were present Mr. F. S. Pope (chair). Mrs. Knox Gilmer, Messrs. Waugh. Hyde. Mason, Dallas. Aston, and the secretary. Apologies were received from Mr. J. A. Campbell, Dr. Oliver, and Captain Sanderson. Letters of condolence on the death of Mr. George A. Green were received from the Florists' Telegraph Delivery Association (N.Z. Unit) and the Nurserymen and Seedsmen's Association of Victoria. A schedule of conditions applying to garden trainees at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens was acknowledged with thanks, and was directed to be referred to the examining board. The Auckland Horticultural Society notified its acceptance of the competition in due course for the Bledisloe (Fruit) Cup. A report by the institute's delegates concerning the deputation, organised by the New Zealand 1 Forestry League, to the Minister of j Internal Affairs, regarding damage in | native forests by deer and other planteating animals, was received. The issue of several certificates in I Florists' Art was approved subject to j the examining board being satisfied as ito the qualifications in each case.
