REQUEST TO MINISTER
MELBOURNE, November 4.
Mr. W. M. Hughes, Federal Minister of Health, has not so far replied to the Prime Minister's demand for his resignation. He also declines to be interviewed. The Prime Minister (Mr. J. A. Lyons), who is occupying rooms a few doors from where Mr. Hughes is staying in East Melbourne, stated tonight that he had received no reply from Mr. Hughes on the question of his resignation, and if none was forthcoming prior to his departure for Canberra tomorrow night Mr. Lyons would make a statement on the position.
Mr. Lyons telegraphed asking Mr. Hughes to resign owing to his altitude towards sanctions contained in his recently-published book "Australia and the War Today."
