SOUTHERLY CHANGE DUE

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Light north-westerly winds at first, out winds soon becoming southerly in direction and freshening-. Weather cloudy and unsettled with rain. Colder temperatures likely.

Since last night a rather complex depression has advanced on to New Zealand, low centres being located this morning to the west ol Auckland and off the east coast of the South Island There were some scattered showers in the far north yesterday, but otherwise the weather was fair. Since last night, however, there has been a general increase in cloud and widespread rain has fallen over the northern half of the North Island, while scattered falls have occurred in western areas and in Otago. North-westerly to westerly winds have predominated and gradually freshened, but by this morning o southerly change had taken place as far north as Banks Peninsula

Auckland had dull and misty weather yesterday. Showers fell during tho morning and fairly continuous rain during the afternoon and night. The wind was a light westerly. At 9 a.m. today it was still raining with a northwesterly breeze.

Wellington had a fine day with 11.4 hours of bright sunshine. A light southerly wind prevailed until 11.13 a.m., after which hour a northerly sprang up and gradually freshened.

Christchurch had a fine clay with n fresh north-easterly wind. At 9 a.m. today it was cloudy with a fresh wind from the south-west.

It was fniG in Duncdin. too, winds there being light nnd variable. During last night, however, a fi'ssli south westerly wind brought heavy vain, an.i at 3 a.m. today it was still cloudy with the wind in the same quarter
