BIGAMY CHARGES
CASES AT AUCKLAND
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
Nine months' imprisonment with hard labour was the sentence imposed by Mr. Justice Callan this morning on John James Lawrence Richardson, a seaman, who admitted bigamy.
Counsel said the accused went through a ceremony out of sympathy for the woman.
The Judge said that the accused's desertion of his first wife before coming to New Zealand made a cruel and callous story. v
Malche Amelia Ruby Williams, aged 23, was admitted to' two' years' probation for bigamy.
Counsel said she had a deed of separation from her former husband who had now instituted divorce proceedings. The second man wanted to marry her. The woman herself had informed the police.
