WORK BEING RESUMED

WELSH MINE TROUBLE

CONFERENCE ON WAGES

illrtttsb Official Wlcclesa.) RUGBY, October 17. Fears of a strike in the South "Wales coalfield arising out of the local dispute at the Nine Milk Point Colliery were relieved late last night by a decision of the South Wales Miners' Federation, and work is gradually being re-1 sumed at the affected pits. This decision is the result of a conference of miners' delegates in consultation with the owners. j

In the course 6E the discussions it was announced that the owners of the Nine Mile Point Colliery, where a "stay in" strike began as a protest against the employment of non-federa-tion men during the recent dispute, intended to close down their pits. Officials of the federation have been assured that if representations are made later as to the reopening of the pits the company will meet the federation representatives for that purpose. The executive council thereupon advised the conference to accept this assurance and to recommend that workmen now on strike at other collieries should resume work.

Local representatives of the federation got into communication with the men who were refusing to leave the pits, and by this morning most of them had been withdrawn.

A national delegate conference of the Miners' Federation of Great Britain met in London today to consider what action cart be taken to forward the claim for a national wages agreement and an increase of wages by 2s a day. Reports were made from districts oh the progress of the federation's campaign for a programme. The conference will meet again tomorrow to receive a recommendation from the executive oh future action.
