Reporting on the London hide market at August 1 Weddel and Co., wrote that more trading had been possible in colonial and miscellaneous sorts. New Zealand cow hides were quoted at 4 3-8 dto 4Jd, and abattoirs at 4d. . . . "A quiet situation in the leather market continues, but prices are being very well maintained. It is thought likely that with so many tanners on holidays over the next week or two the market will be exceptionally quiet."
