HERE AND THERE
Women's Service Guild. A meeting of the Women's Service Guild was held.on Tuesday afternoon ia the Lyceum Club. There was a full attendance of members, and much valuable routine work was done. An animated discussion took place on mental laws. Mrs. Maslen, the guild's representative on the women's unemployment committee, read the annual report of the committee, which was most reassuring. . Warm appreciation of Mr. J. Beck's lecture on "Child Welfare" was expressed. "Payment Deferred." A study of the life of a murderer, after his crime had been committed, "Payment Deferred," the famous play by Jeffrey Dell, was read by the Thespians at a meeting in the Little Theatre, Lower Cuba Street, on Monday night. It was in this play that Charles Laughton scored one of his greatest successes on the stage in London.. Those who took part in the Thespians' presentation, which was thoroughly appreciated by the packed house, were Mrs. May, Mrs. D. G. Edwards, and Messrs. H. Norman Hannah, Ron Pritchard, Greville Wiggs, H. Paul, Eric Evan-Young, and W. Sutherland. The next play to be read by this society is "Whistling in the Dark," an American gangster play. Khandallah "Coin Afternoon." A- "coin afternoon" in aid of the St. Barnabas Babies' Home, Khandallah, will be held at the home on Saturday next, at 2.30 p.m. The committee and matron cordially invite all those intex--ested to be present to sac the babies and what the society is doing for them. Afternoon tea will be provided, and there will be'cake and flower stalls. A most entertaining and enjoyable afternoon is anticipated.
