LITTLE-KNOWN HUNTERS

The pure hunters'' steeplechases usually introduce some unknown quantities, to racegoers, and four of the nine acceptors for the Trial Hunters' Steeples at New Plymouth on. Thursday do -not appear to have raced [previously at totalisator meetings. IThey are naturally all on the minimum. Just Off is given as an eight-year-old bay gelding by Danilof from the Ad-' vance mare -Ancona, the darn also of Bonona and Anbridge,,who raced a few I times without .much- success. He is' owned by his breeder, Mr. W. O. Wil-1 hams, of Hawera. Bonona is the dam, also to Danilof,' of Panloff, who will represent Mr: Williams in the EgmontWanganui Hunt Cup. I Tiger Bill is a six-year-old black gelding'by Lackham from the Cyntoi mare Tiger Lil, so that he is a younger half-brother to Bacchus Marsh, who ran into places in highweights last season. Bred by Mrs. W. G.. Shannon, he is now owned by Mr. G. V. Shannon, of Palmerston North Plockhart is a bay gelding by Beechworth (a son of Rivoli) from a mare by King's Guest, and he will carry the colours of Mr. K. McK. Duncan. He was to have raced at the Pakuranga Hunt last Saturday, but was not taken north after accepting. Browneel, as his name suggests, is a son of Manchineel (sire of Nukumai), being a nine-year-old brown gelding out of a mare by Kilbroney. He is owned in partnership by Messrs A Macnab, of Wanganui, and T. Luptori* of Waverley. An unfamiliar name in the list for the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Cup is i Susie Pye, who appears to have had only one previous race at a totalisator meeting, in a ladies' bracelet at Awapuni over twelve months ago. Susie Pye is an eight-year-old chestnut mare by Danilof from the Maniapoto mare Mannequin, and she is owned by Messrs. E. H. and S. G. Davidson of. Pa tea. Recently at the Taranaki point-to-paint she ran promisingly by just failing to beat Ngareta in the First-class PoinWo-Point Steeples.
