JAPANESE MISSION
CRUISER TRIP CANCELLED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 26. Orders were received in Auckland today for the Diomede to leave Devonport naval base tomorrow for Wellington, where the cruiser was to arrive at 9.30 on Thursday morning. These instructions, however, were cancelled tonight. .-;■..
It was learned that members of the Japanese Good-will Mission at present in New Zealand^have to be back in Australia early next week. Before, the orders were cancelled it was still uncertain whether they would be able to reach Sydney in tune by the Wanganella.; If other means of transport failed, it was believed that the Government as a gesture of good will would place the'Diomede at "the disposal of the Mission for the trip.
