. In a stroke competition at Waiwetu last weekend L. D. Matthews, 81, 11— 70, and-J. Cheevers, 81, 11—70, tied in a stroke competition, the former winning the play off.- L. D. Matthews, 77, 11—66, won the second stroke competi.tion and scored 3 points in the Winter Cup. G..R. Millward, 80,. 13-^7, was 'next and scored 2 points. C. Russell, 92, 25—68, scored 1 point. Other cards were L. Marsden, 82, 11—71, W. Gregory, 91, 20—71, and R. Croft,. 93, 21— 72. H. H: C. Ribbands (4) and J.O'Leary (14), 7 up, won the fourball bogey. Other cards were G. R. Millward (10) and G. Hatfield Xll), 6 up, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Chambers, 5 up. N. J. Sherwood and C. Russell, 2 up, and W. T. Wilson and L. Marsden, all square.
The first round and as many matches as possible in the second round of the championships are to be completed next weekend.
YOn Saturday next a Canadian foursome bogey will be played, players to arrange own partners. ■ •
