CONSIDERATION OF PLAN

Intelesting lemaiks on the diift oi sand were made at the meeting of the Petone Boiough Council last evening, when tuither consideiation was given to the beach beautifying plan Councillor E T E Hogg sa.d that any reclamation and the erection of d P fß fi W°w c!, come under t]l<2 jurisdiction of the Wellington Harbour Board and he would like to know on what conditions, if any, they would allow this Ito be earned out. The pioposed reclamation was a solid stiucture and would cause accumulation of sand He i had .been in Petone all his life «aid Councillor Hogg, and there was ~no doubt that conditions were altering on the waterfront He would like to see tile council get a report on sand dnU from the Hutt River to the Korokoro Stream Near McEwan Park the watei used to be the deepest for bathing along the beach, but the shoaling had been considerable, and it made on° think what the position would be vi ten years The shoaling was probablj due to the straightening of the outflow of the Hutt'River At Wanganu. where the outflow of the river had been straightened, the bathinfe pavilion , at Castlecliff '-used to be > near the water's edge, but it was now several hundred yards back.

The Mayor (Mr A. Scholefield) said the boiough engineer was in touch with the engineer of the Wellington Haibour Board who had kindly pio mised to give any information on pileduvmg or any other allied mattei Councillor Hogg added that he would like to get some more information about the^proposed bathing pier, its dimensions, etc, as it was a curious looking structure.
