A MASKED BALL

FOR THE ORPHANS

One ol the most successful functions of the season was the masked carnival dance hold last evening in St. Francis Hall to celebrate the jubilee year of St. Joseph's Orphanage, Upper Hutt.

The dance floor was crowded andjwas an indication of appiecialion of the wondeiful work done by the Sisters of Mercy in the rare of the orphans. Since the foundation 25 years ago over 9000 childien of all creeds and nationalities have passed through their hands. A very energetic and enthusiastic com. xnittee has been hard at work for some weeks, and what with the willing helpers and the many geneious donors to this good cause, a very substantial sum will be available to help carry on the work of the good Sisters.

The hostesses included Mrs. Knox Gilmer (in black lace), Mrs. J. J. L. Burke (floral crepe with silver lame coat), Mrs. J. Casserley (blue needlerun lace), Mrs. Holland O'Regan (black lace with corsage spray of red anetnones). Special comfortable chain, and solas were provided for these ladies.

The committee members were Mrs C, Hickmott (in sapphire blue lace with I matching coat), Mrs. E. J. Healy (black lace, blue and gold coat), Mrs. L. Glee, son (black suede crepe), Mrs. J. Troy I (lacquer windswept satin), Mrs. R. S. Dwyer (white crepe patterned with , xed and black spots), and Messrs. F. Levin, J. Troy, P. W, Galvin, R. S. Dwyer, ,A. K. Bell, G. Hornig, P. Keogh, J. Smith,' R. J. Barnao, G. Haniss, H. O'Malley, and Mansfield, i The Futurist Orchestra provided ex-cellent-music, which added to the sueI cess of the ball.
