TOO MANY SOLICITORS
'The profession •of solicitor in England'is overcrowded. There is not sufficient work for the number of solici-tors-coming annually on the rolls. This was the declaration made by Mr. Barry O'Brien at the annual meeting of the Law Society when he criticised certain clauses of the new Solicitors' Bill. "It is described as an Act to amend the law relating to solicitors," he said, "but a more apt description would be 'an Act further to restrict the .'freedom and privileges -of the practising solicitor.'" He complained that .the .Bill gave the council the right to require certificates of character of an 1 intended articled pupil before a solicitor could take him. "It is a calculated insult to members of the profesI sion," he contended, "if we are not to Ibe allowed to select, our, articled I clerks,"
