NEW GUINEA SURVEY
ARMY PILOT AS LEADER
LONDON, August 12. The "Daily Telegraph's" Amsterdam correspondent says that Captain Van Stevennick, an army pilot, will lead the expedition which is to chart onethird of Dutch New Guinea from the air.' '
The expedition comprises twenty-five Europeans and twenty-five natives. Three de Havilland machines will fly from England in September. ;
It was reported on August 4 that a company had been formed for the" development of unexplored parts of New Guinea. Pioneer work would be undertaken by British and Dutch aviators, _ piloting de Havilland Rapide machines. It was hoped to discover gold or at least to determine the possibilities of thousands of acres of country which is at present forestclad.
