RESTORATION OF CUT
LOWER HUTT BOROUGH
MOTION DEFEATED , - '"' Pursuant to notice, Councillor P. Dowse moved at the Lower Hutt Borough Council meeting last, night that all employees should have the 10 percent, cut restored to them, due allowance being made for those whose salaries had been increased.
The motion was defeated.
Councillor W. A.F. Hull seconded.
A discussion took place as to whether' the motion was in order, but "finally the Mayor (Mr. J. W. Andrews) gave permission for the motion to be put. Councillors Ashton and Cole threat-J ened to move the ','closure" motion, but ' refrained at the request of the Mayor, i
• Councillor Dowse said the restoration would bring the council into line with a large and increasing number of local bodies; and also into line with the Government's, policy.
The motion was lost on the voices.
The Mayor" informed Councillor Dowse that according to the standing orders the matter could not be reintroduced for six months.-•
