POWER DISPUTE
CITY MEMBERS' MOVE
(Special to the "Evoning Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day. "I want to know whether, if I. decide to remain in my chair here when the contract committee sits, the chairman will be prepared to call the police and have me ejected, or what steps he will take."
This question was put to the chairman of the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board (Mr. C..G. C. Derner)' by Mr. J. Hodgens, a' city member, at the board's meeting yesterday.
It represented a move made to enable the city members to view correspondence affecting the power dispute between the Palmerston North City Council and the board.
The only letter not produced to the board that day was from the council's solicitors, said the chairman. The Palmerston North representatives should be kept informed by the Mayor or someone else.
Mr. Guy moved that all letters referring to the dispute should go before the contract committee immediately, which was' carried after considerable discussion, those voting against the proposal being Messrs. Nash, Eliott, Hodgens, McKay, and Shannon.
A motion that a solicitor's opinion be obtained, as in spite of the previous resolution the mover felt that it would not be legal to keep back letters from the full board, was later carried.
