DAIRY INDUSTRY
THE MAURICEVILLE COMPANY
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
MASTERTON, This Day.
"I think it is an absolute' record," observed Mr. V. K. Lemberg at the annual meeting of the Mauriceville Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., yesterday, when the report and balancesheet were adopted without discussion. "It is the first time,"' he added, "that the report and balance-sheet have been adopted without discussion." Mr. H. Myers (deputy chairman) presided over a good attendance of. suppliers and shareholders. *
A comprehensive review of the company's operations and the general outlook for the dairying industry -was made by Mr. Myers, who stressed the importance of quality in butter. The grading at the stores of the company's butter last year was 93.6. The quality of the cream showed an improvement, the figures being "89.536 per cent, finest, 9.786 first, and .678 second grade. He drew attention to the results achieved at the Palmerston North Show, where Mauriceville had won the New Zealand championship and also several other prizes. He expressed doubts as to how prices could be guaranteed to the dairyman without causing undue hardship to the rest of the population, and considered that the Dairy Board would do more good if it devoted its energies towards marketing instead of interfering with the people's rights and freedom by a proposal to eliminate overlapping in company operations.
The two retiring directors, Messrs. V. K. Lemberg and S. J. Clarke, were re-elected unopposed.
Mr. A. Keith was rtappointed auditor at the former remuneration.
A dividend of 5 per cent, on the paid-up capital was declared.
