POLICE V. P. AND T.

FUN AND FOOTBALL

The annual Rugby football match between teams representing the Police and the Post and-Telegraph Departments is made an occasion for much fun apart from the friendly rivalry on the field of play. For this year's event there has been some elaborate planning to make it even more enjoyable and successful than those, of the past. The intention was to/make last Wednesday the eventful day, but, owing to the bad.weather previously, a postponement was made until tomorrow, and, if anything, the '. extra time has been of benefit, not.only, in enabling intending participants to strike better form but also in creating an even greater interest! There has been one set-back, however, and that is in permission being refused by:the City Council for Police and P. and T. representatives to hold- their "Wheelbarrow Derby", through town. Plans have not been completely upset so far as the wheelbarrow race is concerned. This event will now be started by Mr. "Dorrie" Leslie from the Basin-Reserve shortly after 2 p.m. and will finish at Athletic Park, where fun and football will be in good supply. Many well-known local Rugby! players are to take part in the football match, for which the following teams have been selected:—

Police.—Backs: Pointon; Hansen, Adlam, Wakelin; Best, Ellis; Cleverley. Forwards: Hunt, Stevens, Waple, Barry, Wilson, Miles, Spence, Fell. Emergencies: Meikle and Wells..

Post and Telegraph.—Backs: Evans; Nees, Bacon, Jackson; Spillane, Wilkinson; Zane. Forwards: Berry, Cooper, Shepherd, Pringle, Saulbrejy Henderson, Doneghue,' Tietjeris. "Emergencies: Tehalski, Crofts, and McLean.'

The whole outing is.beirig conducted in aid of the Mayor's Relief-Fund, the Wellington City Mission, the Home of Compassion, and the Free Ambulance.
