WOOL SITUATION

ASPECTS OF THE MARKET

PRIVATE BUYING

"Evening Post," July 31,

■'.■ London July wool sales and the Australian 1935-36 selling season not opening until early in September there is nothing much doing in the open wool market, but a fair" amount of -private selling has been going on in the Dominion itself, although growers - are reported as having unshaken confidence in the future, of the market. Private business has been reported in Otago as having been done at round about lOJd'per.lb for halfbreds 56's58's including fleece and oddments, and crossbred fleece 48's-50's at up to 94d. A few- sales of North Island v/ools have also been reported, with business at 7d to 7£d for good quality, 46's, also at 6d to 6Jd for average crossbreds, 44's-46's. Private inquiries are also being made for crutchings and sales effected at prices indicating that buyers anticipate a rise in the market for this description of wool when the winter sales of crutchings open in Auckland on August 16: Sales at Wellington on August 20 and Wanganui and Napier follow in that order. Fleece wool will also be offered at these sales.

Experience goes to show that growers are holding back for these sales, and are generally reluctant to accept prices now being offered by private buyers in quest of lines suitable for special requirements.
