HOCKEY

INDIA v. ."WELLINGTON

CHOICE OF GROUND

' The City Council, in a letter received at a meeting of the Wellington Hockey Association last night, asked for an explanation as to why the association had not played the AllIndia v. Wellington match at the Basin Eeserve. The game was played at Athletic Park. The letter drew the attention of the association to the fact that for a number of years the association had been granted the use of the Basin Reserve for four days each season for the playing of representative games. Last year, stated the letter, a game was played against the Australian hockey team on a very wet day and considerable damage was done to the ground. In the opinion of the Director of Parks more damage was caused than was done by the Wellington Football Association during the whole of the winter season. The council received as its share of the gate for that match the sum of £2 lls 4d. In view of the above, continued the letter, the reserves committee would be glad to be informed why the association did not make use of the Basin Reserve for its game''against the Indians,'especially as the receipts at the Basin Reserve for the match between1 Wellington and India in 1926 were over £800. • ;■.

A sub-committee was appointed to draft an answer.
