POLICEMAN'S DAMAGES

Police-constable Maurice O'Donncll, of the Wiltshire Constabulary, was awarded £350 damages by Mr. Juslice Branson at Wiltshire Assizes, Salisbury, against H. H. Keynolds, water haulier, of Yatton, Bristol, for injuries received by a lorry. P.C. O'Dormell claimed, among other things, that as a result of the accident his jaw had sunk, that his nose had been placed on one side, and that, as a result, he was permanently disfigured. When Mr. Herrick Collins, his counsel, asked him how his disfigurement affected him, P.C. O'Donnell replied: "I think quite a lot of my face. It is the only thing which shows to the world, and I believe people are apt to under-estimate me through my disfigurement." Mr. Justice Branson said: "Whereas at the moment O'Donnell seems very upset at th' 3 disfigurement he has suffered, it is my experience that although this disfigurement makes a man feel very conscious at first, he becomes used to it and takes no more notice of it than his friends."
