OPEN TO PUBLIC

LECTURES BY SPECIALISTS

"I believe that regular lectures by specialist members of our staff can be of considerable value in our civic life," declared. ' Mr. R. G. Ridling, director of the Wellington Technical College, in a report; to the meeting of the Board of Governors last night. "I think also that we are inclined to forget that in addition to our teaching amongst the students we should not lose sight of the fact that many people would be glad of the opportunity of keeping their work up to date through talks of the character outlined. I am equally convinced that a large proportion of the public is apathetic towards what is being done and what can be done by specialist instructors, and as much publicity as possible should be given to the fact that we can and are prepared to make the institution as serviceable as is required." A course of lectures by members of the art staff has been arranged. On July 3 Mr. N. Isaac gave an address on composition. The remainder of the course includes the following lectures:—Etching and engraving processes, by F. V. Ellis, July 31; colour block printing, by R. Hipkins, September 25; wood and stone carving and bronze casting,' by J. M. Ellis, October 30; metalwork, enamelling, and silversmithinP' processes, by N. Isaac,. November 27.

"These lectures are open to the public, and a lee to cover the bare cost of advertising is being charged. It is certainly desirable that members of the public should know of these lectures," said Mr. Ridling. , •
