TASMANIAN PAPER PROJECT.
Proposals for the establishment of the paper industry in Tasmania are still under consideration by the directors of Tasmanian Paper Pty., Ltd., Australian Paper Manufacturers, Ltd., and Amalgamated Zinc (De Bavay's), Ltd. At the ordinary general meeting of shareholders of the last-mentioned company, the chairman (Mr. H. E. Cohen) said that the various questions involved were- being subjected to the closest scrutiny by experts and by a committee representing the three organisations involved. Tasmanian Paper Pty., Ltd., was awaiting the preparation of reports by those interests before it made any decision as to the further steps to be taken or the course to be pursued, all of which would be brought to shareholders' attention. Amalgamated Zinc had shared in the costs of the survey by making a loan to Tasmanian Paper Pty., Ltd., in common with other of its principal ihareholders, an expense felt by the directors to be fully justified and not of considerable extent.
