GRANITE DEPOSITS
EQUAL TO IMPORTED STONE
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") OAMARU, This Day. A well-known monumental mason, Mr. John Crombie, brought into the "Oamaru Mail" office samples of granite obtained on the Eglinlon Valley Road. He considers the quality equal to that of the best granite of Scotland and Norway. There is a good range of shades from almost white to dark grey. | The stone is of very close grain and fine -texture.
Mi*. Crombie has sent several specimens to Auckland to be polished and finished. The article is indistinguishable by experts from imported granite, and men who have spent a lifetime studying granite agree that the quality is equal to the highest grade mined in any part of the world. It responds to polishing and finishing equally as well as other high-grade granites and has a brilliant appearance,
Mr. Crombie says there appear lo be unlimited deposits. The samples were taken about eighteen miles from the West Coast Sounds. The deposits have great commercial value.
