LOCAL RELIEF
FIREWOOD SUPPLIES
For the purpose of supplying a certain amount of firewood to unemployed married men in Wellington the Mayor's. Metropolitan Relief Committee' has opened d wood depot in Egmont Street. The committee hopes to secure the services of a number of men from the Unemployment Board to cut and split wood blocks and the wood will be issued through the committee, those receiving it supplying their own bags and cartage.
A quantity of old rails have already been given to the committee for the yard, and several firms have offered to supply packing cases from'time to time. It is expected that other citizens will supply scrap timber during the remaining months of the winter, and axes and saws have been made available for the work in the yard.
Although the yard has already been opened and a supply of timber stacked there, the work of cutting it up cannot be commenced until some time next week, and it is expected that delivery of. the wood to the unemployed cannot be commenced until the following week.
