A "Maybclle" Dance. . . .. '.The fourth annual "Maybelle" dance will take place in St. Francis-Hall on Wednesday evening. "In other years the dance has proved highly-popular. Invitations are already out and a happy evening is to be expected. United Services Clvi). One of the brightest and most enjoyable social functions of last year was, the ball arranged by the United Services Club. Invitations for this year's ball, which is being held . on July 25, are now being issued to members and friends. A bridge evening for the ladies will also be held in the club rooms on August 3. • Enjoyable Concert. A most enjoyable evening was spent in the Brymay Social Hall- recently when a concert, arranged, by Mrs. E. Astill, was given for the members of the Social Club and their friends. The following gave items:—Mesdames Gwen' Clayton,-E. Astill, and Lawson, Miss Marjorie Clifford, and Mr;.- Douglas .Stevens, Misses Esme Crow and G. Harris, Mr. Lauri Bevan., Two tapdance ballets were presented by Miss Hazel Martin's pupils, and a gymnastic display was given, by the pupils of Mr. Alf. Jenkins. Mr..Arthur Pennington gave some humorous songs. All items were greatly and were enthusiastically encored. The accompanists were the Misses Bessie Ferguson and Jeanette Briggs. Too Little Milk. Miss Rennie, of the Technical Col* lege, will, on Tuesday evening give a public demonstration showing originality and variety, in the use of milk. This demonstration is the direct outcome of the recent concern-expressed by several doctors that New Zealandefs are, using too little milk. : .- Annual Staff Dance. , .'..'/ The third annual dance" of the "Four Square" Stores held in the New Assembly Hall,, Brougham Street, recently, was a great success. There was a large attendance of members and friends who all had an enjoyable time. Items given included some elocutionary ones by Mr. X.. Osborne, and tap dances by Miss Evelyn Wright.: Miss Marjorie Newport and Mr... Athol Beale gave a graceful exhibition of ballroom dancing.. The committee, included Mesdames Grinlington, Murray, Turnbull, McCornell, Jones,. Jenkins, Messrs. Benge, Watchman, Furness, and Granger.. . .. •. ■,-.. Hataitai Bridge Tarty. : .";" ■-. The Hataitai branch of the R.S.A. Auxiliary Committee held a very sue cessful bridge and "500" evening recently in Gamble and Creed's, Courtenay Place. On behalf of the committee the patron, Colonel Avery, thanked, the players for their generosity in. supporting a very worthy cause.-Prizes for bridge were won by Mrs. Clark and Colonel Avery for highest scores,, and Mrs. • Pearson for the "hidden; ,nun> ber." Mrs. Sanery and Mr. Logan wer« the winners of the "500" prizes. A; de» licious home-made supper, was ;:then served by the ladies of the committee, which brought a very happy evening to a close. ' ; ; •■■ / :.V..,'-,: Pioneer Club Luncheon' Party.': :' A delightful luncheon party. \vas held by. the committee of the Pioneer Club to hear Dr.-Helen Bakewell. recount some of her experiences cabroad; and also to welcome new members to-the club. Dr. Bakewell, in a very'bright and interesting speech, spoke principally of'her stay in Greenwich and of her work in the hospital there, or the place better known as the "Infirmary-" She briefly mentioned some of the historical'values, of the lovely old town, \yhere in the quaint little thurch is found the tomb of General 4Volfe. Every conceivable^jjariety of case was brought to the hospital for treatment, and any medico visiting there could not help gleaning, valuable information from the. experiences encountered.. Mrs. C. B. Adams .(acting president) proposed a vote of jthanks to the speaker, which was carried. Choral Union Club, . •>-■:'■ :.:'--Amost enjoyable evening -was spent recently, in the Pharmacy Hall, by-the .members, of the Royal 'Wellington Choral Union Club,.and their'friends. Games and dancing occupied the greater part of the evening: Songs; and duets - were. given by Miss Gladys Webb, and Mrs. Hazel Thompson; and a charming ballet was presented by the pupils of Miss Phyllis Oliver. A delicious sit-down supper was' provided. Mr. Walter Bentley made a very efficient M.C.: The committee comprised Mesdames Pumfrey, . Tapping, Mathie and McGill Nutt,.
