FAVOURITES HAVE GOOD INNINGS

With exceptionally big fields parading throughout the clay, investors were generally much closer to the niark than might have been anticipated on the opening day of the Wellington; Racing Club's Winter Meeting- at Trentham yesterday. v Three bolh-way : favourite's were successful, and the only double-figure dividends , were returned by Collision in the hack sprint, and by Revision in tho open hurdles. The large fields and the success of'the better-' fancied horses resulted in a healthy increase in the investments,, which were nearly 30 per cent, up pn last year's figures. . -• The club was very fortunate with the weather, for the weekend storm, cleared off during Monday evening, and it was fine with sunshine and little, wind for the racing. A large attendance ; patronised the meeting, and the racing • generally was of a very : high standard. The track was naturaHy heayy, but Otherwise it;was in splendid winter order. '" • : '
