GOOD YEAR'S WORK
WRITERS AND ARTISTS
The third annual report of the New Zealand Women Writers' and Artists' Societyis a very interesting one, showing good progress irjpwork though the membership remains about the same each season. Country members, it is stated, are kept in touch with all work done, this being both an interest and an advantage. Mention is. made with regret of the death of Mr. VA. R. Atkinson, who took an interest in the society, and gave an excellent address in August last. • ..
Miss Cqad (president), led a good discussion on "Plagiarism," Mrs. J. C. Andersen and Mrs. Igglesden gave readings, «nd,a particularly enjoyable evening was spent when original work of members, in the form of plays, poems, stories, etc., was given.
Miss Edith Lyttelton was entertained, and a farewell party given to Mrs. A. D. Kerr, M.A., a valued member of the society, who was leaving to take up her residence in Christchurch. Discussions, impromptu speeches, discussion evenings, and other intellectual exercises were carried out during the year. A scheme, put forward by the secretary (Miss N. Donovan) was one for the holding of a competition and exhibition of children's work, the proceeds to bo in aid of the Crippled Children's Fund. The idea was well received, and it is hoped that something ,on these lines will be arranged.
Deep regret is expressed that Miss Coad, M:A., feels that she is no longer able to hold .the office of president. Her work has been ol the greatest merit and assistance to the society, and sincere thanks are recorded to her with congratulations on the good reviews both in New Zealand and overseas of her book, "From Tasman to Masscy." Thanks' are expressed to the Press and to all helpsru and members for good work.
