Trotting had taken up. a great deal of time, perhaps tpo much. He had started in 1893 by buying a horse, and his association with the sport had always been of great happiness to him and also a great recreation. New Zealand he believed, led the . world in trotting. Today trotting was as much a social event as racing.

Mr. Irwin was re-elected vice-presi-dent, and his qualifications and service to the sport were eulogised by the president. The Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C., said that although fMr. Nicoll had said that he might not be seeking re-election at the end of the year, he thought that the conference would not be prepared to consider his relinquishing office until ten years hence.
