BOROUGH MEETS

The monthly meeting of .the Lower. Hutt Borough Council was held last evening. Present, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. Andrews), arid Councillors C. J. Ashton, R. M. Russell, M. Macaskill, P. Dowse, W. B. Rainey, Walter Cole, W. A. F. Hall, J. S. Dallinger, and J. Mitchell. ■ ■ ■ ■■ ' ■■■"■•

It was decided to place a traffic line from the foot of the White's Line ramp to Ludlam Crescent, to regulate the traffic.

A rebate of half the rates was granted on a property in Woburn Road, on the ground that it had been unoccupied for six months. It was decided to offer no objection to the proposal of the Hospital Board to raise a loan of £19,800.

The tender of Messrs. Fawcett and Dunnett to remove dust and refuse at the rate of £610 per annum was* accepted on trial for three months. It was decided to carry out a programme of tree-planting on Arbor Day. . On the recommendation of the works committee it was agreed to bear with the Hut'; County Council half the cost of three: lights in or in the vicinity of Brasell Street, and to reinstate twelve street lights cut out as an economy measure; also to install five additional lights. '

The Mayor reported that satisfactory negotiations were in hand for the widening o:E Woburn Road at the-western end.

The approval of the council was given, to R. W. Bartley rejoining the Fire Brigade, and to the appointment of Master Vere Mullaney as messenger. '
