YOUNG DELINQUENTS

INCREASE AT DUNEDIN

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

DUNEDIN, July 8.

That there has been a striking increase in the amount of juvenile crime in Dunedin is suggested by an increase in the number of cases dealt with in the Children's ' Court during the quarter ended June 30. In those three months the total number of cases which came before the Children's Court was 177, made up of 164 cases against males and 13 against females. The total number of cases for the corresponding quarter of 1934 was 51. For the quarter ended September 30 last 78 cases were dealt with, and 81 cases appeared before the court in each of the next two quarters.

The increase last quarter, therefore, is more than 100 per cent, compared with any quarter in the previous year.
