ANOTHER CANDIDATE
LAST-MINUTE NOMINATION (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. There was an unexpected development in the Lyttelton by-election campaign this morning, when Mr. Gordon Stewart Hamilton, a farmer, of Hapuku, near Kaikoura, lodged a nomination for the seat. Nominations closed at noon, the candidates being:— Mr. E. L. Hills (Independent Labour). Mr. M. E. Lyons (Government). Mr. T. H. MeCombs (Labour). Mr. G. S. Hamilton (Independent). Early this year Mr. Hamilton announced ' that it was his intention to stand against Mr. Forbes in the Hurunui electorate, and he has indicated that he is a strong opponent of the Government. He has a farm at Hapuku, some miles north of Kaikoura,. in the Wairau electorate.
