HUIA DEFEAT HUTT
Huia> defeated Hutt by 5 goals to 1 in a iast match played at INaenae on Saturday. A willing pace was set by both teams, and there was no slackening all through the game. Huia scored the first goal after a tew minutes' play, Wheatley and Cotter preparing the way for Brown, who took the ball right into the goal-mouth. Hard play followed the score, and Cooper led another Huia attack, which did not result in any score being registered. Hutt found themselves on the defensive, and had it not been for McLeod's well-timed shots, which saved the situation, things might have been serious for them. Huia's passing was definitely superior. Hutt at last broke away, and Bollard centred well, but. advantage was not taken of the movement. The shooting on both sides was inclined to be wild, and hard hitting was the order of the day, the ground being fairly soft. Huia initiated a series of attacks and, things looked dangerous for Hutt, whose goalie saved several times in succession. Finally Cooper scored again for Huia from a melee in front of the goal, and followed it up shortly afterwards with another. Huia continued to press their opponents, and it. was only excellent defensive work on the part of Hutt that prevented further scores being registered for the time being. The first half ended with the score: Huia 3, Hutt
0. . . , . Hutt started off more promisingly in the second spell, but missed many opportunities through bad passing. However, play was generally of a more even nature. Several good movements by Hutt came to nothing. McLeod nearly scored once from a melee in front of Huia's goal, but the ball went high and wide; Huia again took up the attack, and gave Fowler, the Hutt goalie, a considerable amount of work to do. He was'playing an excellent game, and made several spectacular saves.' Both ;sides kept up the pace, and Hutt had another chance when Chambers centred to Bollard, who missed 'by ' a small margin. Shortly afterwards Hult gained their only score when McLeod netted lrqm a penally corner. In the.last few minutes of play Huia scored two goals, one a shot from the edge of the circle by Martin, and the other a clean drive by Wheatley from a centre by Cotter. The final score was: Huia .5. Hutt 1. The umpires were Mr. H. Hatch and Dr. Hickey.
