SURPRISE SPRUNG BY ORIENTAL
OLD BOYS STILL AT THE TOP In ihe series of senior A grade Rugby football matches played locally on Saturday afternoon, ihe narrow defeat of Poneke by Oriental in the first division provided a'big surprise. The promoted learn, however. wcU deserved its success on the run of play, though Poneke, who were running level with' Wellington College Old Boys in the leading place for the championship, were unfortunate to miss a glorious opportunity of pulling the game out of ihe fire near the call of time. Eastbourne and Hutt staged a disappointing exhibition on Athletic Park, the attempts at goal-kicking, of which there were many, being lamentably weak. This match was drawn. A much more entertaining display was given by Athletic and Wellington at Newtown Park. Athletic won well, Tindill, at half-back,' being of great service to the side. Petone and Marist Brothers Old Boys had quite an exciting encounter at Petone, the home team winning .with little to spare. Wellington College Oldißoys had a runaway win over Johnsonville. Wellington College Old Boys are now unattended in the lead for the championship, being two points ahead of Poneke and Hull, with Petone close up. ' ______________ SENIOR A RESULTS AT A GLANCE
