VICTORY AT WIMBLEDON

BRILLIANT PLAY IN FINAL

YON CRAMM MASTERED

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received July 6, noon.) LONDON, July 5. In the first Anglo-German final in the history of the Wimbledon tennis tournament F. J. Perry (Britain) re- ■ tamed the men's singles championship by defeating G. yon Cramm (Germany) in three straight sets — 6-2, 6-4, 6-4, Perry, who was playing with much greater dash and severity than against Crawford, took the first set 6-2. His intensive. attacking forced yon Cramm into errors and the German's beautiful strokes lacked their usual control. Yon Cramm played better in the second set and well enough to worry any' other contemporary player, yet Perry's consuming zeal left the German constantly struggling for points. With phenomenal brilliance in serving, driving, and volleying Perry won the set 6-4. The tennis in the third set reached great heights with two attacking players at the top of their form and achieving daring and breath-taking passing shots. Yon Cramm served with battering pace, yet Perry almost always had an effective reply. He won the set 6-4. The match was full of brainy e?:----changes at tremendous pace with Perry's margin of safety and aggression constantly greater. Yon Cramm was defeated in seventy minutes. "I never want to play another match with the tension throughout as high as that," said Perry. "I feel that if I lapsed yon Cramm would assume control, and consequently I never let up for one instant." Yon Cramm said he thought he had played sufficiently well to beat any player in the tournament. Perry was the greatest player in the world. MIXED DOUBLES SURPRISE. Mr. and Mrs. Hopman, an unseeded mixed doubles pair, created one of the m,aJQr surprises of the Wimbledon tournament1 by eliminating yon Cramm and Frau Sperling, ex-champions and the first seeded, pair. The Australians kept the ball away from yon Cramm. Hopman volleyed brilliantly and Mrs. Hopman drove and tossed with skill and determination. THE RESULTS.
