THE RED HOUSE
An appeal is being, made to save Red liouse, Bexleyheath, the Kentish home of William Morris, from destruction, i Designed for Morrris at his marriage in- 1860,' the, house is now in the .centre of an area of building development. Supporters of the appeal include Mr. Harrisay. Mac Donald. Mr. Baldwin, the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres, Mr. Rudyard Kipling, Mr. John Masefield, and Mr. George Bernard Shaw. The house was furnished and decorated by Morris, Rossetti, Burne-Jones, and other members of their group and still contains several of the original fixtures and decorations. Although the house and its grounds are valued at £4000, the owner is prepared to sell it,to the appeal committee for £3100. The Urban District Council of Bexley is willing to consider responsibility for the care of the house if it is purchased andput-Jo public use.
