WEDDING

BLACK—CARD. The wedding was solemnised at Kent Terrace Presbyterian Church recently of Jessie Stewart, elder daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. A. B. Card, to John Laing, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Black, Nelson. The officiating minister was the Rev. W. Gilmour, B.A. Mr. Alex. Mill' presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mr. A. B. Card, wore a beautiful gown of white satin cut on classical lines, with a cowl neck and closefitting sleeves, the skirt finishing with a graceful train. Her embroidered veil (lent by a friend) was worn cap fashion, and was held in place by coronet and sprays of orange blossom. She carried a sheaf of June roses and palepink carnations. The bridesmaids Miss Florence Evelyn Card "(chief) and Miss Edeva Flett. They wore similar frocks of Marina green moss crepe, made on fitting lines, with hat and gloves to tone. They both carried a sheaf of autumn-tinted Iceland poppies and sol-de-ore, with streamers of Marina green. Little Betty Card (niece of the bride) made a charming flower-girl. She wore a dainty frock of pale apricot georgette over satin made in early Victorian style, and carried a posy of autumn-tinted flowers. Mr. Sydney Oldershaw (Nelson) was best man, and Mr. Ken. Webley (Nelson) was groomsman. During the signing of the register Mrs. E. Webb sang the solo "O, Perfect Love." About eighty guests were entertained at a reception held at Gamble and Creed's, Lambton Quay, and were received by Mrs. A. B. Card, who was assisted by Mrs. L. MacPherson. Mrs. Card was wearing a black and white ensemble and hat to tone, and carried a posy of red cyclamens and violets. Mrs. MacPherson, sister of the bridegroom, wore a smart wirie tailored costume and hat to tone. * The bride and bridegroom later left by the Limited for a tour of the north. The bride travelled in a smart brown tailored costume and hat to tone. The future home of Mr. and Mrs. Black will be in Nelson.
