TENNIS CLUB SOCIAL
The social committee of St. Francis Tennis Club, Island Bay, held a most successful and enjoyable dance in the Masonic Hall, Clyde Street. The tasteful decorations of the club colours made a very pretty scene, and a "capacity house" spent a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The M.C. was Mr. Christie. ' Mr. A. P. Burke! officiated as chairman and presented the various trophies won by successful contestants of last season's tournaments. These were as follows: —Ladies' championship singles, Miss V. Koss; men's championship singles, Mr. R. Boyes; ladies' championship doubles, Miss M. Lyons and Miss M. Ryan; men's, Mr. A. Gibbons and Mr. J. Heather; ladies' handicap singles, Miss' K. Todd; men's, Mr. R. Boyes; Gerald Sander's Memorial Cup, Mr. R. Boyes and Miss L. Barnao. The members of the committee responsible for this successful function were Misses K. Todd, E. and R. Barnao, L. Maloney, D. Martin, and Messrs. P. Ryan, J. and E. Barnao, and E. Heather. - ' Among the many dancers were Mr. and Mrs. B. Barnao, Mr. and Mrs. P. Doogan, Misses N. Mclnerney, E. Pidgeon, M. Ryan, C. O'Donnell, M. Fanning, E. Cassin, J. Rogers, M. O'Neil, P. Smith, A. Gill, and Messrs. I. Smith, J. and G. Peters, A. Clarke, D. O'Neil, M. Paisley, B. Howarth, W. and C. Wheeler, and D. Ryan.
Miss B. M. Cahill, of Otahuhu, formerly of Victoria University College, has been successful out of fifteen contestants in winning the oratory competition at Auckland University College. The contest was held to select representatives to proceed to Dunedin, where the inter-university college
