DEMOCRAT PARTY

TWO RESIGNATIONS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. Mr. Marlow, who has resigned from the chairmanship of the local branch of the Democrat Party, states that his experience durinp the municipal election, when he was defeated for Mayor, has shown him the danger of the entrance of a third party into the field. This, he believed, would prevent a true expression by the electors of their wishes in respect to the form of Government which they preferred, and the effect might be the operation of minority rule. Mr. J. L. Passmore has resigned from) the party because of business reasons. | Being a member of the Broadcasting Board, he is repeatedly away from Duneclin. Other resignations are talked of. . ' * Mrs. H. S. Black, wife of the exMayor, is the only woman in New Zealand so far approached by the Democrat Party. When the matter was referred to Mr. A. E. Davy, organiser of the party, he stated that Mrs. Black was suggesfe;d to the local provisional executive early in the year as a possible candidate for Dunedin Central, and at that time sho was approached. The nomination, together with those of several other likely candidates, had been referred by the recently-appointed district executive to its selection committee for early consideration, and when the final selection had been made the official list Of ranrfiHatpc wnnlrl bn announced. ■_.; , , : , \, :
